Description
Polished Bronze Leopard : Sable
A Stretching Leopard Sculpture by John Cox
Sable is a polished bronze leopard sculpture by John Cox, capturing the long, flowing stretch of a big cat; with the forelegs reaching forward, shoulders lowered and hindquarters raised, the figure combines a relaxed movement with a strong, recognisable outline
The long tail curves upwards above the body, balancing the extended forepaws and giving this stretching bronze leopard an expressive silhouette; the smooth contours lead the eye from the face and shoulders along the back and up towards the tail, making the sculpture rewarding to view from both sides
The highly polished bronze finish reflects its surroundings, creating changing highlights across the legs, flank and face; its warm golden appearance comes from the polished bronze surface, with the recorded material being hollow cast bronze
Created in 2011 using the traditional lost wax bronze casting method, Sable measures approximately 64cm high × 16cm wide × 104cm long and weighs approximately 13kg; the narrow body and extended pose make the full length an important consideration when choosing a display surface
Displaying Sable’s Polished Bronze Form
A long console, cabinet or stable display plinth can give Sable enough room for the reaching forepaws and raised tail; choose a surface suitable for the 13kg weight and avoid placing the sculpture close to an edge or a busy walking route
A simple backdrop allows the stretching pose to remain the focus, while gentle daylight or carefully positioned lighting brings out the reflections across the polished surface; allow clearance above the tail as well as around the body, and compare the different viewpoints in the product photographs
Discuss the intended display location, finish and care requirements with Escar UK Bronze before ordering, particularly if considering an outdoor setting; delivery arrangements and any supporting base should be agreed for the chosen position
