John Cox’s creative journey began many years before Escar UK Bronze was founded. Trained as a skilled woodworker and joiner, he developed an exceptional eye for detail and craftsmanship while producing bespoke furniture and intricate wood carvings
These traditional skills laid the foundation for his work, allowing him to shape wood, metal and other materials into original and captivating works of art. Inspired by both wildlife and the natural world, John developed a particular passion for modelling wildlife, equestrian and figurative subjects, creating sculptures that combined artistic expression with meticulous craftsmanship
What began as a lifelong hobby soon evolved into a successful business. Combining years of practical craftsmanship with a passion for bronze sculpture, John founded Escar UK Bronze with a simple vision: to create exceptional bronze sculptures that would be admired and treasured for generations
As Escar UK Bronze grew, so did its reputation for quality, craftsmanship and exceptional customer service. John’s original sculptures, alongside a carefully curated collection of bronze statues and sculptures, attracted collectors, homeowners, businesses and public organisations from across the UK and beyond
As demand grew, bespoke commissions became a defining part of the business. Whether sculpting wildlife, equestrian subjects or portrait commissions, John’s ability to capture character, movement and fine detai led to commissions for private clients, prestigious estates and commercial projects, with each sculpture created to reflect the individuality of its subject
His work has been commissioned by notable clients, including Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, helping to establish Escar UK Bronze as one of the UK’s trusted specialists in bronze sculpture and bespoke commissions
Although John’s sculpting career was cut short following his unexpected passing in 2014, the vision and values on which Escar UK Bronze was founded continue to guide the business today
His wife, Joy, and daughter, Jayne, have remained committed to preserving John’s legacy while continuing to develop the business for future generations. Building on the strong foundations he created, they have expanded the collection, overseen bespoke commissions and maintained the personal service, quality and craftsmanship that customers have come to expect from Escar UK Bronze
Continuing John’s spirit of creativity, Joy has also developed a number of unique projects for Escar UK Bronze. One of the most distinctive began when she approached the creators of the acclaimed television series Peaky Blinders with the idea of producing a limited edition life-size bronze statue of Thomas Shelby. Permission was granted to create just three officially authorised sculptures, making them among the most exclusive works ever produced by Escar UK Bronze
