Description
Bronze Bloodhound : Pastie
A Commissioned Bronze Bloodhound with a Concept by Joy Cox
Pastie is a commissioned bronze bloodhound sculpture arranged by Joy Cox, created for the same client who commissioned Rennish back in 2006. This compact dog portrait shows how the character of an individual companion can become the focus of a bronze commission
Shown sitting with his head facing forward, Pastie has long hanging ears, a furrowed brow and a broad muzzle; the folds around the face and the gently drooping outline of the ears give the portrait a thoughtful expression, while the seated body and tail complete the study
The photograph shows a dark brown finish with lighter highlights across the face, chest and forelegs; these variations help define the modelled surfaces and give the small bronze bloodhound sculpture depth when viewed at close range
Made in hollow cast bronze using the traditional lost wax bronze casting method, Pastie measures approximately 30cm high × 20cm wide × 23cm long and weighs approximately 4kg; the sculpture is presented here as a commissioned work, with its own recorded specifications and credit
Displaying Pastie’s Bloodhound Portrait
Pastie’s compact size lends itself to a cabinet, desk, side table or substantial shelf with a stable surface suitable for the 4kg weight; leave enough clear space around the ears and muzzle so the face remains the centre of attention
A simple backdrop and gentle light from the front or side can make the folds and expression easier to appreciate; if considering a different setting for a commissioned bronze, discuss the finish, support and care requirements with Escar UK Bronze
Discussing Your Own Bronze Dog Commission
Pastie and Rennish provide two examples of commissions from the same client, each with a separate identity; when discussing a bronze dog portrait commission, consider the pose, expression and details that make your own dog recognisable, together with the size and intended display location
The £750 guide price recorded for Pastie relates to this sculpture; a new commission requires its own quotation based on the agreed design, scale, finish and delivery arrangements
